Seeds of Literacy moves to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

(Plain Press, February 2007) Seeds of Literacy recently moved its administrative offices, literacy site and resource center from St. Colman Parish to newly renovated space at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on West 69th Street and Detroit Avenue.

The Sisters of St. Joseph founded Seeds of Literacy in 1997 as part of their educational ministry. Seeds of Literacy is an adult literacy program that provides basic education and G.E.D. preparation to adults in Cuyahoga County free of charge. The program is built on one-to-one tutoring in which relationships of trust are built. Ten program sites located in different Cleveland neighborhoods served over 650 students last year with the assistance of 150 volunteer tutors.
