Heating Assistance Programs

(Plain Press, February 2006) The following programs are now available to prevent disconnections or enable reconnections from your heating source.   Keep in mind that all of these programs require that you have already applied for HEAP and either received help there or been turned down. You may need to bring in proof that you were turned down.  Also, appointments with one of the following will not hold off a scheduled disconnection so do not wait if you receive a disconnection notice.

Salvation Army  - Has limited funds available for gas only. You must have been disconnected or have a disconnection notice and already received or applied for help from HEAP. You must make an appointment to be seen.  Call your local YMCA for information.   Eligibility level is 175% of poverty.

OPAE Fuel Fund administered by Cleveland Housing Network. Primarily for gas but has some very limited funds available for Cleveland Public Power. You must have been disconnected or have a disconnection notice.  You must have received or applied for help from HEAP, applied for assistance through the Salvation Army and the Counties PRC program if eligible.  Eligibility level is 175% of poverty.  Call 518-4032 to make an appointment. Call 574-1700 ext 21 if you are disabled or a senior citizen and need a home visit.

Cuyahoga County PRC Fund.  Can be used for gas and electric.  You must have been disconnected or have a disconnection notice.  This is limited to adults with a dependent child in their home and is subject to standard PRC rules.  You do not have to have an existing case with the county to apply.  You can go to any Neighborhood Family Service Center and request an application.  Eligibility level is 200% of poverty.
