Near West Food and Family Service Center cuts hours

(Plain Press, November 2005) On September 19th the Near West Food & Family Service Center at St. Patrick’s Club building changed the hours it will be open for food service. The center will now distribute food only on Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center announced it will no longer distribute food on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The evening meal at the site will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Near West Food and Family Service Center is a program of the West Side Ecumenical Ministry (WSEM).

Janet Thomas, a WSEM spokesperson, said the move will allow the center to serve the same amount of people, about 400 families per month, in a more efficient manor. “We will keep the staff we have and use them more effectively and efficiently,” said Thomas.
