Cleveland to hold Primary Election on October 4th

(Plain Press, October 2005) The City of Cleveland will hold a non-partisan primary election on Tuesday, October 4th. Eight candidates will vie to make it to the general election on November 8th where the top two candidates will face off to become the next mayor of Cleveland. The mayor of Cleveland serves a four-year term. The salary as of January 2005 is $119,712.36.

In addition to the mayor’s race, primaries will be held in the council races where there are 3 or more candidates. In the Plain Press service area, there will be council races in wards 15 and 16. The two candidates receiving the most votes will face off again in the general election on November 8th. Cleveland City Council members serve a four-year term. The salary of a city council representative as of January 2005 is $67,735.92 per year.

In addition to the council races, voters in some precincts will be asked to vote on issues involving the sale of beer and wine or liquor. Of particular note to Ward 17 residents, there are two local options in Precinct G concerning the sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages at Edy’s Food Market on Bridge Avenue at W. 47th. In Ward 19 Precinct Q there are two local options on the ballot concerning the Sunday sale of intoxicating liquor.

Shall the sale of intoxication liquor, of the same types as may be legally sold in this precinct on other days of the week, be permitted in this Clevealnd Ward 19, Precinct Q for consumption on the premises where sold, between the hours of ten a.m. and midnight on Sunday, at licensed premises where the sale of food and other goods and services exceeds fifty per cent of the total gross receipts of the permit holder at the premises?
