Sister Donna Hawk receives national recognition

(Plain Press, December 2004) Sister Donna Hawk, CSJ, Executive Director of Transitional Housing, Inc. 1545 W. 25 th Street, is one of the 2004 Charming Shoppes VOICES campaign winners. Hawk was one of 99 women across the country honored by Charming Shoppes, Inc. (Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Catherine’s) on Saturday, October 23, 2004 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Cindy Brown, the Transitional Housing, Inc. resident who nominated Sister Donna, writes, “Transitional Housing helped me put my life and myself as a woman back together.”

Sister Donna Hawk, along with three other nuns, founded Transitional Housing, Inc. (THI) in 1986. As the award states, “This woman-to-woman program is a haven for women intent upon changing their lives. THI is a new beginning for homeless women, with mentoring and job training programs that not only encourage members to dream big, but also gives them the foundation and skills to achieve such dreams. THI continues to help women become independent and strong, and remains one of the largest transitional housing programs in the United States.”
