Save-A-Lot receives community recognition award

(Plain Press, August 2004) The Cleveland Division of Save-A-Lot has earned the 2004 Community Recognition Award by the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD). The award recognizes the local business for commitment to the school district’s Adult Basic and Literacy Education and General Education Development (GED) programs.

Save-A-Lot was honored for proactively providing employment opportunities to students enrolled in the city’s adult education classes. Save-A-Lot’s store on Detroit Avenue is located just west of Max Hayes High School , where the CMSD’s adult education classes are held.

Bobby J. McDowell, CMSD manager of the adult and continuing education programs, said Save-A-Lot was chosen for its continued support. “Several community organizations and employers were noted, but Save-A-Lot was overwhelmingly selected to receive this award because of its commitment to education and genuine interest in improving the lives of Cleveland adults,” he said.
