Friday August 17 - Saturday, August 18, 2007, W. 44th and Lorain Avenue: Ohio City Resident Russell Cendrowski holds a sign that says, “Dear John, Your plate number is being recorded. Yours truly, The Neighbors.” Members of the W. 45-W. 47 Block Club invited concerned residents to join them on Friday evening and early Saturday morning to help discourage prostitution along Lorain Avenue. Police nabbed about ten Johns on Lorain Avenue the night before the gathering of residents, said Ohio City Safety Coordinator Bob Shores.

Saturday, July 28, 2007, Rebuilding Together Cleveland’s Rebuilding Day, 1834 W. 57th Street: About 50 volunteers from Key Bank, URS, and Cleveland Catholic Diocese’s St. John Cathedral and St. Peter’s Church helped to paint, repair and do some landscaping at the house of Darlene Noonan. Michella Pedley of Key Bank is up on the roof painting.

Tuesday, August 14, 2007, Starkweather Avenue under the I-90/I-71 Innerbelt: As part of their summer job at Merrick House, Deshawn Brown, age 17, and Anthony Holmes, age 15, restore the American flag after vandals threw red paint on it. Rocky Melendez, who runs a youth program at Merrick House, says seven youths worked three hours a day for a month this summer to help restore murals under the Innerbelt and at Merrick House. A week later vandals had again splashed red paint on the flag.
