Saturday, May 5, 2007: City Serve, St. Luke’s Church and Luther Memorial School, W. 85th and Sauer: Robert (age 5) and William (age 3) Aldridge enjoy riding bikes and exploring a playhouse. City Serve volunteers from Lutheran West High School put on a carnival for neighborhood children while the staff of Luther Memorial School offered tours of the school.

Saturday, May 5, 2007: City Serve, Iglesia Cristinana, W. 30th and Walton: Volunteers from Lutheran West High School and from Lutheran Churches throughout the city help to spruce up Cleveland neighborhoods. Diane Zellmer of Redeemer Lutheran Crisis Center works with volunteers Kasandra Rueda, age 9, Joshua Sanchez, age 9, Amy Becker, age 16, and Sarah Howard, age 15, to sweep the street. The tools were provided by Clark Metro Development Corporation.

Sunday, April 29, 2007; Ward 17 Youth Art Show, Saigon Plaza, 5400 Detroit Avenue: Gia Hoa Ryan of Saigon Plaza talks with Marie Kilbane of Metro Catholic School. Kilbane came to the show to support her friend Autumn Smith of Urban Community School, who had artwork in the show. Students from Clark, Gallagher, Metro Catholic, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the PEP Program, Stockyard Community School, Urban Community, Watterson-Lake and Waverly displayed their work at the art show.

Saturday, April 28, 2007, Balloons for Beverly, West Side Community House (WSCH), 9300 Lorain Avenue: Fundraiser for the WSCH’s Beverly Corrigan Learning Lab: Gladys Howson, a long time supporter of the West Side Community House, presents the Ada Breen Award for Community Service to David Douglass, as guest speaker County Commissioner Tim Hagan looks on. Douglass was honored for his help and support which allowed the WSCH to move to its new facility. Douglass purchased the former WSCH at W. 30th and Bridge Avenue.

Saturday, April 28, 2007, Neighbors of Mittal Steel ride bikes for clean air; Lincoln Park, W. 14th and Starkweather: Sara Woodson of Ohio Citizen’s Action’s Columbus office prepares to set out on a tour of Mittal Steel on her bike. About a dozen cyclists raised fifty dollars each from sponsors of the ride. Funds from the ride helped to pay for signs to tell “Mittal Steel to Clean-up for Real.”
