Welcome to Tremont
The area known today as the Tremont neighborhood was annexed to Cleveland in 1867. Scenic views of the Cuyahoga river and the brief presence of Cleveland University attracted residents to the neighborhood in the later half of the nineteenth century. Tremontís population peaked in 1920 at 36,000 and has since decreased to 8,138 (in 2000) mostly because of freeway construction and the demolition of hundreds of houses due to physical deterioration. Since then the neighborhood has reinvented itself fostering urban living with small town character. It offers unique dining, shopping and art events as well as new and diverse housing options.
