Welcome to Detroit-Shoreway
Detroit-Shoreway was absorbed into Cleveland through the annexation of land from several cities between 1854 and 1894. A large middle-income community developed, peaking in population at 41,000 in 1920. In recent decades, the neighborhood has experienced a significant population decline resulting in a population of 17,382 in 2000 due to urban sprawl as well as housing demolition necessitated by the construction of I-90 in 1978. Its proximity to Cleveland's Downtown neighborhood, easy access to Lake Erie and recent residential and commercial renovations have revitalized this neighborhood in recent years. It continues to attract people to its restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues.
