In "Recognizing Predatory Lending," we will discuss how consumers can protect themselves against many of the "tricks" used by predatory lenders against unsuspecting borrowers. In the "Know What You Are Signing" session, we will be reviewing the loan documents to help consumers better understand the loan closing process and the purposes for the various documents. We will also point out areas in these documents where unscrupulous lenders may try to take advantage of borrowers.

Mission and/or Goals
The Office of Consumer Affairs educates Ohians on how to protect themselves in the mortgage lending process, receives complaints from those who have been victimized and acts as a referral service to organizations that can assess borrowers. If lending laws have been violated, the office initiates enforcement action and refers criminal cases for prosecution.
