LESSON FOCUS:
1. Why was the Haymarket an important factor in the history of
Cleveland before 1900?
TEACHING PROCEDURE:
- Distribute copies of the Fact Sheet to the students. Have
the students read the fact sheet and complete the accompanying
worksheet.
- During the 1920s, the area known as the Haymarket was targeted
to be cleared as part of the construction program which resulted
in the Terminal Tower complex. The article appeared in the newspaper
about this time and was intended to give people a slice of life
in the area soon to be removed from Cleveland's history. Have
students read the article and complete the worksheet on the reading.
