To make students aware of how the population of Cuyahoga county was distributed in 1840.

LESSON FOCUS:

1. How was population of Cuyahoga County distributed in 1840.

TEACHING PROCEDURE:

1. Have the students graph the population of the major cities and towns in Cuyahoga County in 1840.
2. Have the students research population of these same cities in 1800, 1820, and 1850. Have the students select several cities and prepare a graph showing the comparison of population in the cities over time. This information may be found in census analysis data available at local libraries.
3. Have students locate the cities listed and speculate why some cities were larger than others.
