Lesson 24


Step 1. Observation.

  1. Study the photograph for 2 minutes. Form an overall impression of the photograph and then examine individual items. Next, cut a blank sheet of paper into fours and cover the photograph with them. Now, lift one quadrant of the paper and study that section to see what new details become visible. Repeat this procedure with each quadrant.

  2. Use the chart below to list people, objects, and activities in the photograph.

Based on what you have observed above, list three things you might infer from this photograph.

Step 3. Questions

  1. What questions does this photograph raise in your mind?

  2. Where could you find the answers to them?

List two things this photograph tells you about what life was like in Cleveland during the 1940s in the African-American Community.
