Pollution Control Grant

Administered by the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership for the period

Objective 1  Develop nonpoint source pollution control plan for the Green/Marshall Lake subwatershed. Estimate pollutant loadings and compare with reductions needed to improve water quality in lakes. Investigate best management practices and plans for reducing pollutant loadings. Establish goals for long-term management of lakes. Develop process that can be applied to other lakes in the Doan Brook watershed.

Objective 2 Use information from Objective 1 to select and implement pollution control practices and plans to improve Green/Marshall Lakes and the Brook. Conduct water quality monitoring to gauge implementation effectiveness.

Objective 3  Perform watershed education program (note: The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes provides education under the grant.

Objective 4   Teach 4th grade proficiency course "What has Doan Brook seen?" to all Cleveland Heights school 4th graders.  

Objective 5 Assist with coordinating watershed festivals, conduct thematic brook walks and attend watershed-wide outreach events watershed-wide.

Objective 6  Develop and enroll residents and lawn care professionals in lawn care certification program (focus on Green/Marshall Lakes subwatershed).

Objective 7  Conduct citizen water quality monitoring program.

Objective 8  Stencil storm drains.

Objective 9  Conduct assessment of City of Shaker Heights' operations and make recommendations for improving practices/policies to improve water quality. Tie with Lawn Care Certification Program.

Objective 10 If necessary, generate restoration project site, do stream channel assessment of Doan Brook in Shaker Heights. Identify potential restoration sites. Plan and design restoration project.

Objective 11 Implement stream restoration project using natural design practices.

Objective 12 Plan, design and build (if feasible) stormwater detention and treatment facility at outlet of Van Aken shopping center at Shaker Hts. Country Club.

Objective 13 Administer grant.
