Tremont
Perched on a ridge above the Flats, Tremont overlooks the industrial Cuyahoga
River valley and Downtown. This old steel town neighborhood, known for its historic
churches, is undergoing a vibrant revitalization.
It is gaining the reputation as a "hot spot" for
hip, urban night life, dining and the visual arts with galleries and restaurants
within walking distance. Many businesses and homes, more than a century
old, are undergoing restoration. There also is new home construction with
scenic valley views.
Settled in 1818 by New Englanders Seth Branch and Martin Kellogg, Tremont
today is a multicultural and multiracial community. It is home to Slovenian,
Greek, Russian, Hispanic and other ethnicities, and is attracting newly
relocated young urban professionals and artists.
The Tremont website is a "work in progress." If
you have comments about the site or want to add your neighborhood organization,
please e-mail Dr. Leo Jeffres
at Cleveland State University or Tremont West Development (info@tremontwestdevelopment.com).
